Product Description

A simple white shield with black figures and lettering forms the center of the stat coat of arms of the former Belgian trusteeship of Ruanda-Urundi in South Africa, known since 1961, when it became independent, as the Republica y'u Rwanda or the Republique Rwandaise. On the shield a black bow is tensed to shoot an arrow which bisects a centered triangle. A flanking hoe and sickle complete the design. The bow and arrow symbolize Rwanda's readiness to defend its liberties while the farm tools represent peaceful work in the largely agricultural land of the giant Watusi, the Bahutu, and the pigmy Batwa. A white dove perched on the shield and a black olive branch on a white ribbon encircling the base proclaim the nation's peaceful desires. The flag carries symbolic meanings in its color scheme. Green stands for hope and optimism, yellow for the tranquility and peace of a free people, and red represents the suffering endured during the struggle for liberation.?ΓΏ Symbols Of The Nation, 230
