Product Description

The main shield is quartered by a gold cross combines the symbols of the Vasa dynasty of 1523-1818 and the successor Bernadottes, the family of Napolean's famous Marshal which has produced a succession of progressive kings and the humanitarian Count who lost his life during the United Nations peace effort in the Middle East in 1948. The charges include a gold urn displayed against a silver band on a red field, a gold eagle on a blue field with silver stars, and a siver twin-turreted castle on a blue background. Gold crowned lions flank the main shield, which is topped by a royal crown and circled by the cherub-decorated collar of the Order of the Seraphim, its medal suspended below. The emblem is displayed against an ermine-lined red pavilion crested with a larger gold diadem. The yellow cross on a light blue field, which constitutes Sweden's flag has been flown since the sixteenth century. Its evolution has been traced to seals used in 1448 during the reign of King Karl Knutsson.?ΓΏ Symbols of the Nations, 254
