The beehive stands for industry and community; 1847 is the year the Mormon pioneers reached the Salt Lake Valley, and 1896 the year of statehood. The sego lily, the state flower, recalls the bulbs that fed early settlers through hard winters. The eagle and flags express Utah's loyalty to the Union.

Flag Specifications

Adopted: 1913; Historic State Flag since 2024

Colors: dark blue, gold, with the full-color seal

Emblem: state seal

Vexillographer's Note

For decades many Utah flags were made with a manufacturing error that omitted the gold ring around the seal.
