3×5' nylon flag of American Samoa.
The eagle on American Samoa's flag carries two Samoan symbols of authority: the fue, a fly whisk that stands for the wisdom of the chiefs, and the uatogi, a war club for the power of the state.
Design
A dark blue field with a white triangle edged in red, pointing toward the hoist. On the triangle, a bald eagle grasps the fue and the uatogi.
History & Symbolism
The flag was adopted on 17 April 1960, the sixtieth anniversary of the day the Samoan chiefs ceded the islands to the United States. Red, white and blue are the colors shared by the United States and Samoa. The eagle stands for the United States and its protection, and the fue and uatogi for Samoan tradition.

Vexillographer's Note
The bald eagle is not native to Samoa, which makes its pairing with the fue and uatogi a deliberate symbol of two cultures joined.
