3×5' nylon national flag of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde).
Cabo Verde changed its flag in 1992 to mark a new political era. The old design shared the colors of Guinea-Bissau and the liberation movement that once united them; the new one looks out to the Atlantic.
Design
A blue field with three narrow horizontal stripes, white, red and white, set below the middle. A circle of ten yellow five-pointed stars is centered on the stripes, toward the hoist.
History & Symbolism
The flag was adopted on 22 September 1992, after the end of one-party rule. The ten stars stand for the ten main islands of the archipelago. Blue stands for the ocean and the sky, and the stripes for the road toward building the nation: white for peace, red for effort.

Vexillographer's Note
The ring of stars is off-center, sitting toward the hoist. Placing it in the middle of the flag is a common reproduction error.
