3×5' nylon national flag of Djibouti.
Djibouti's flag was made to hold two peoples in balance. Its blue and green halves stand for the Issa and the Afar, the country's two main communities, joined by a white triangle of peace.
Design
Two equal horizontal bands of light blue over green, with a white isosceles triangle at the hoist bearing a red five-pointed star.
History & Symbolism
The flag was raised at independence from France on 27 June 1977, based on the flag of the independence movement. Light blue stands for the sea and sky and for the Issa Somali; green for the earth and for the Afar; white for peace; and the red star for unity and for the blood shed for independence.
