3×5' nylon national flag of Guyana.
Guyana's "Golden Arrowhead" was designed by an American: Whitney Smith, the scholar who coined the word vexillology and founded the Flag Research Center in Massachusetts. Few national flags have a more distinguished designer.
Design
A green field with a gold triangle, edged in white, pointing from the hoist to the fly. Over it lies a red triangle, edged in black, reaching to the center.
History & Symbolism
Smith submitted his design before independence; the College of Arms in London adjusted it, adding the white and black borders, and it was raised at independence on 26 May 1966. Green stands for agriculture and forests, white for the rivers, gold for mineral wealth, black for endurance, and red for the zeal and dynamism of a young nation building its future.
Flag Specifications

Vexillographer's Note
For any flag house, this is a flag of special interest: it is the national flag most closely tied to the founder of modern flag scholarship. Its 3:5 ratio matches our 3×5' size exactly.
