3×5' nylon national flag of Kuwait.
Kuwait's colors are explained by a poem. The fourteenth-century poet Safi al-Din al-Hilli wrote: "White are our deeds, black our battles, green our fields, and red our swords."
Design
Three equal horizontal bands of green, white and red, with a black trapezoid at the hoist.
History & Symbolism
The flag was adopted on 7 September 1961, shortly after independence from British protection, and first officially raised on 24 November 1961. It replaced a plain red flag inscribed with the country's name. Its colors are the Pan-Arab colors of the Arab Revolt, read through al-Hilli's verse.

Vexillographer's Note
The black trapezoid is the detail that sets Kuwait apart. The UAE uses the same four colors with a vertical red band at the hoist instead.
