3×5' nylon national flag of Kyrgyzstan.
At the center of Kyrgyzstan's flag is the tunduk, the crossed wooden crown at the top of a yurt that lets in light and lets out smoke. It is a symbol of home, family and the nomadic heritage of the Kyrgyz people.
Design
A red field with a yellow sun of 40 rays at the center. Inside the sun is a red ring crossed by two sets of three lines, the tunduk.
History & Symbolism
The flag was first adopted on 3 March 1992. The 40 rays stand for the 40 tribes united by the epic hero Manas, and the red recalls his banner and the courage of the people. In December 2023 parliament redrew the sun with straight rays in place of the earlier wavy ones, partly because the old rays were sometimes read as sunflower petals.

Vexillographer's Note
Kyrgyzstan's 3:5 ratio matches our 3×5' size exactly. Flags made before 2024 show the older, wavy-rayed sun.
