3×5' nylon national flag of Lithuania.
Lithuania's tricolor was raised by a nation reborn in 1918, banned under Soviet rule, and restored at the end of the 1980s, shortly before Lithuania became the first Soviet republic to declare independence.
Design
Three equal horizontal bands of yellow, green and red.
History & Symbolism
The colors were chosen in 1918 from those common in Lithuanian folk weaving. Yellow stands for the sun and prosperity, green for the forests, the countryside and hope, and red for the courage and blood of those who defended the country. The tricolor was restored in 1989, and its proportions were changed from 1:2 to 3:5 in 2004. Lithuania also has a historical state flag: the white knight, Vytis, on red.
