3×5' nylon national flag of Mongolia.
The golden symbol at the hoist of Mongolia's flag is the Soyombo, created in 1686 by the Buddhist leader and artist Zanabazar. It is a whole philosophy drawn in a single column of shapes.
Design
Three equal vertical bands of red, blue and red, with the gold Soyombo in the hoist band.
History & Symbolism
The present flag was adopted on 12 January 1992, when the communist star above the Soyombo was removed. Blue stands for the eternal blue sky, central to Mongolian tradition, and red for progress and prosperity. From top to bottom, the Soyombo shows fire, the sun and moon, triangles and bars of honesty and watchfulness, and two fish in a yin-yang form, framed by two pillars of strength.
