3×5' nylon national flag of Saint Lucia.

Saint Lucia's flag was painted by an artist. Dunstan St Omer, one of the island's best-known painters, designed it in 1967, and its stacked triangles evoke the Pitons, the twin volcanic peaks that rise from the sea on the island's southwest coast.

Design

A cerulean blue field with a black isosceles triangle edged in white at the center, and a smaller gold triangle in front of it sharing the same base.

History & Symbolism

The flag was adopted on 1 March 1967, when Saint Lucia became an associated state, and kept at independence in 1979; its shade of blue was revised in 2002. Blue stands for the sky and sea, gold for sunshine and prosperity, and black and white for the two cultures of the island living and working together.
