3×5' nylon national flag of San Marino.
San Marino claims to be the oldest republic in the world, founded by tradition in 301 AD. Its flag carries one word that sums up its history: LIBERTAS.
Design
Two equal horizontal bands of white over light blue. The state flag carries the coat of arms at the center: three towers, each topped with an ostrich feather, on the three peaks of Monte Titano, beneath a crown and above a scroll reading LIBERTAS, framed by oak and laurel.
History & Symbolism
The flag was adopted on 6 April 1862, and its details were last standardized in 2011. White stands for peace and the snows of Monte Titano, blue for liberty and the sky. The three towers, Guaita, Cesta and Montale, still stand on the mountain today.

Vexillographer's Note
The crown on San Marino's arms is a symbol of sovereignty, not of monarchy. The republic has never had a king.
