3×5' nylon national flag of the Solomon Islands.
The Solomon Islands flag reduces a nation of almost a thousand islands to three colors and five stars: water, land, sunshine, and the main island groups.
Design
A thin yellow diagonal band runs from the lower hoist to the upper fly. Above it is a blue triangle with five white five-pointed stars; below it a green triangle.
History & Symbolism
The flag was adopted on 18 November 1977, ahead of independence from Britain in 1978. Blue stands for the ocean and the rivers, green for the land, and yellow for sunshine. The five stars originally stood for the five districts of the islands.

Vexillographer's Note
The Solomon Islands now has more than five provinces, but the five stars remain: national flags often freeze a moment in a country's history.
