3×5' nylon national flag of Suriname.
Suriname's flag was designed for a nation of many peoples. Its single golden star stands for the unity of all of them, and for a golden future.
Design
Five horizontal bands of green, white, red, white and green, the red band twice the height of each green band and the white bands narrow. A yellow five-pointed star is centered in the red.
History & Symbolism
The flag was adopted at independence from the Netherlands on 25 November 1975, after a public competition. Green stands for fertility and hope, white for justice and freedom, and red for progress and love. The star stands for national unity and the sacrifices made for a golden future.
