3×5' nylon national flag of Tajikistan.
The crown on Tajikistan's flag is a play on words. Tajiks often link their name to toj, the Persian word for crown, and the emblem turns that link into the nation's symbol.
Design
Three horizontal bands of red, white and green, the white band one and a half times the height of the others. A gold crown beneath an arc of seven gold five-pointed stars is centered in the white.
History & Symbolism
The flag was adopted on 24 November 1992, after independence from the Soviet Union. Red stands for the unity of the nation and its sun, white for purity and the country's cotton, and green for its fertile valleys. The seven stars draw on the number's long association with perfection and happiness in Persian tradition.
