Ukraine

Nylon national flag of Ukraine, in 3×5', 4×6' and 5×8'.

Blue over yellow is often described as a clear sky above fields of wheat. In recent years Ukraine's simple bicolor has become one of the most widely flown flags in the world.

Design

Two equal horizontal bands, blue above yellow.

History & Symbolism

The colors come from the medieval arms of the Kingdom of Ruthenia and the city of Lviv, a golden lion on blue. The Supreme Ruthenian Council in Lviv raised a blue and yellow flag in 1848, and the Ukrainian People's Republic adopted one in 1918. Under Soviet rule the colors were banned. The flag returned in 1990, flew at independence in August 1991, and was formally adopted by parliament on 28 January 1992.
