3×5' nylon Historic State Flag of Utah.
When Utah adopted a new flag in 2024, it did not retire the old one. By law, the seal-on-blue design remains Utah's official Historic State Flag and may still be flown.
Design
A dark blue field with the state seal inside a gold ring: a bald eagle above a shield bearing a beehive, the word INDUSTRY and the dates 1847 and 1896, with sego lilies, crossed US flags and arrows, and the word UTAH.
History & Symbolism
The flag was adopted in 1913. The beehive stands for industry and community; 1847 is the year the Mormon pioneers reached the Salt Lake Valley, and 1896 the year of statehood. The sego lily, the state flower, recalls the bulbs that fed early settlers through hard winters. The eagle and flags express Utah's loyalty to the Union.

Vexillographer's Note
For decades many Utah flags were made with a manufacturing error that omitted the gold ring around the seal. The legislature corrected the official design in 2011.
