Yemen

3×5' nylon national flag of Yemen.

Yemen's flag was born of a union. When North and South Yemen merged on 22 May 1990, each gave up the emblem on its flag, a star for the North and a blue triangle with a red star for the South, and kept only the colors they shared.

Design

Three equal horizontal bands of red, white and black.

History & Symbolism

The colors are the Arab Liberation colors first used in Egypt's revolution of 1952. Red stands for the blood of martyrs and national unity, white for a bright future, and black for the dark past.
